All of Us

In June 2022, NYU GPH spearheaded PDI (PI: Dr. Stephanie H. Cook), an All of Us initiative that engaged historically underrepresented master’s and PhD students in gaining formal quantitative analytical skills via interdisciplinary research projects using the Researcher Workbench. Five NYU GPH faculty members mentored the teams, which each consisted of 4-5 students and postdoctoral fellows from various NYU concentrations. The goal of PDI was to build pathways related to a variety of quantitative skills and programming languages, specifically R. We achieved 25 new registrations to the Researcher Workbench (15 master’s students, 4 PhD students, 1 postdoctoral fellow, and 5 faculty members); the majority of enrollees were from underrepresented group(s) in biomedical research. Aided by the mentors, teams registered 10 research projects using the All of Us research data. From these 10 projects, 10 manuscripts are in progress to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, 1 abstract was accepted for oral presentation at an international conference, and 1 NIH R01 application was submitted based on initial results. Further, 1 PhD student will write her dissertation using All of Us data.
